Brianna Sims 1545792 Jackson English 300 AH September 26, 2015 TITLE Assisted Suicide or Voluntary Euthanasia is when a patient with a terminal illness request to end their life by taking a lethal injection or a prescribed medication with the help of a medical professional. In the United States each state has the choice on whether or not it is illegal to perform the task of assisted suicide. Out of all fifty states there are only five with a legal method for assisted suicide. In Vermont, Washington, California and Oregon it is mandated by state law and In Montana it is by court order (CNN). Two researchers set out with a questionnaire to interview 49 psychiatrist and 54 physicians around India. The researchers kept the questionnaire short â€Å"considering the sensitive nature† (403). The researches gave seven different situations where patients asked for euthanasia. The questionnaire asked a series of questions about if the situation seemed lawful or if they would provide the patient with the drugs needed to die. Many of the physicians who were religious showed a conservative look on assisted suicide and not promoting the use of fatal prescription drugs. The non-religious or supporters of assisted suicide would have provided the patients they thought deserved lethal medication if it was legal in their countries. Out of the 103 participants 93% of the Physicians and Psychiatrists thought in the right sit uation the use of assisted suicide should be lawful. In â€Å"Should Dying be Lawful† by Richard Griffith talks about how in the United Kingdom it is illegal to perform any type of act that causes a person to die.
